Stupid Simple Security Tip #10 – Three Ways to Prevent Cyber Breaches at the Office
Does the thought of a data breach send shivers down your spine? It does mine, too.
The rising incidence of data breaches and cybercrime is alarming, and it’s important that we all realize it’s not just the big boys that are going down. Cybercriminals are aware of the volume and type of sensitive information law firms are entrusted with. This makes law firms an attractive target for them.
So attractive in fact that the American Bar Association’s 2019 Legal Technology Survey cites 26% of responders reporting that their law firms have experienced some sort of a security breach.
The more worrying statistic shows: 19% reported that they do not know whether their firm has ever experienced a security breach!
The good news is that you can being to reduce your risk by taking a few proactive steps. Case in point, we’ll cover three ways you can prevent cyber breaches at the office.
1. Train your people. The people who make your business operate are at once your first line of defense and one of your greatest liabilities. Train them to recognize the signs of phishing attacks, to practice good password hygiene, and more.
2. Tech Matters Your people are the first line of the defense, but you need a backup. Cybersecurity technology like firewalls and malware detection software add another layer of protection against intruders and other threats.
3. Filter It Filters – email and web, not water – provide protection if your people make a mistake and click on a suspicious link or end up on a malicious website. Yes, they limit online access, but they deliver critical protection you can’t do without.
