Samantha McCarthy
BACKGROUND
McCarthy Law LLC is a Mac-based practice located in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The firm—consisting of two attorneys plus a support staff of four—develops estate plans, advises on elder-care issues, provides guidance related to long-term care and Medicaid planning, handles probate and guardianship matters, counsels buyers and sellers of residential real estate, and structures new businesses.
Led by founding partner Samantha McCarthy, the firm places a premium on building meaningful relationships with clients from all walks of life and takes considerable pride in the affordability of its services. The motto of McCarthy Law is “Helping to provide guidance and peace of mind.”
However, when it came to the firm’s Mac computers, peace of mind among the members of Team McCarthy Law was in short supply.
Among the consequential problems arising from the use of those computers were an inability to get Calendar entries to sync, Gmail to perform smoothly, and Google Drive to deliver on its promise. The set of Nextiva phones the firm wanted to tie in was problematic, too—the implementation simply wasn’t going as hoped.
To address these and other problems, McCarthy Law first tapped the services of an IT support company with which the firm had an existing relationship. Unfortunately, their aid was unsatisfactory.
“We made several attempts with our IT company to resolve these problems, but they failed to communicate with us on numerous accounts,” Ms. McCarthy said. “They could not help us the way we needed to be helped.”
A major reason for the IT company’s inability to solve McCarthy Law’s IT problems was its lack of Apple/Mac specialization.
APPROACH
At that point, McCarthy Law turned to Ohio-based GlobalMac IT, a managed services provider for Mac-based law firms and attorneys nationwide. McCarthy Law enlisted GlobalMac IT after learning the Mac specialist’s expertise extended beyond the mere nuts-and-bolts of computer setup but stretched into strategic deployment planning, proactive maintenance, and state-of-the-art cybersecurity defenses.
“We brought in GlobalMac IT to provide technical support and improve our technology and processes,” Ms. McCarthy said.
After assessing the situation, GlobalMac IT was convinced it could successfully help McCarthy Law. With Ms. McCarthy’s approval, GlobalMac IT then set about devising a plan to resolve the firm’s IT issues swiftly, smoothly, and without disruption to the flow of legal work needing to get done.
“GlobalMac IT worked with us via direct phone calls and Zoom meetings,” Ms. McCarthy recounted. “Their communication was great—when we had questions, we received within reasonable time answers that were clear and concise.”
RESULTS
Effective solutions were found and implemented in short order. After being put in place, they gave the firm an immediate boost in productivity by enabling the attorneys and staff to spend appreciably less time and effort getting things done. Consequently, McCarthy Law found itself positioned for greater success.
Ms. McCarthy indicated that her firm afterward received (and continues receiving) ongoing managed services from GlobalMac IT. “When an IT issue comes up, all we have to do is submit a help-desk ticket, and GlobalMac IT usually responds with a timely call-back. Once they start a call with us, they make sure the issue we flagged is resolved before the call ends. Overall, GlobalMac IT has been great in assisting us.”
