Occasionally, I run into an attorney who's reasoning for not using Office 365 is the 'death by a thousand cuts' analogy that people averse to paying an ongoing monthly fee use to defend their stance. They feel that it's just another ongoing monthly fee that will bleed them dry and they believe buying the app outright will save them money. That view rarely compares Apples to Apples and expanding on that idea is a whole other discussion. Let's focus on the email services included with the service and why every attorney should use Microsoft Office 365.

For $12.50 a month (with annual commitment) you can get the Office 365 Business Premium. At GlobalMac IT, we believe in the value of this specific plan so much that we include the Office 365 Business Premium plans with our services, it's not an option, it's just in there and all our clients use it. The way we see it, it is a no brainer.

Focusing on the Premium plan, the big things you receive are:

Office 2016 apps for PC and Mac. This includes, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Onenote. Each user can install Office on 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets (Windows, iPad, and Android), and 5 phones.

Business-class email hosting with 50 GB mailbox. Not having a business domain email broadcasts to the world that you are a hack. That you practice out of your parent's basement as you pay down your law school loans. There's nothing wrong with that, if that's the case, but that is simply an extremely lazy step that I guarantee you is costing you business.

OneDrive for Business gives each user 1 TB of personal cloud storage that can be accessed from anywhere and syncs with their PC/Mac for offline access. Easily share documents with others inside and outside your organization and control who can see and edit each file. [Note - we do NOT recommend this as a file sharing solution for Mac-based law firms due to our internal testing and real-world, failed roll-outs that we have run across.]

Office 365 Business Premium makes it extremely easy to get set up with professional-grade email services. They provide extremely high reliability, 50GB of email storage, and you can send attachments up to 150MB. You get access to Outlook for your Mac, PC, mobile devices (mobile phones and tablets) and you instantly have access to all your data from any device. The email service boasts one of the best SPAM filters and they have extremely high uptime with many redundant servers, making it extremely rare that there are service interruptions.
